Brazilian Waxing & Your Next Beach Vacation
Hey there, babe! We know that when planning and preparing for a vacation in a beach city or at a beach resort, getting your bikini area bikini-ready will always be at the top of your to-do list (obviously, because it’s a beach vacay, not a forest hike!) So we’ve compiled this little helpful and handy list of everything that a beach babe like you should know about getting a Brazilian wax before getting into some holiday sun and fun.
First of all—and we can’t stress this enough—it’s not advisable to DIY any kind of bikini waxing at home. There are a lot of things that could go south with at-home waxing and we wouldn’t want a gorgeous babe like you to have to rough it to your next beach vacay with missed hairs. This is why the best thing to do when it comes to bikini waxing is to book a wax appointment at a professional salon or spa.
Before Your Brazilian Wax Appointment
Timing your appointment: You will want to schedule your Brazilian wax appointment at least 2-3 days before your trip to give any redness or sensitivity you may get enough time to dissipate.
Avoid scheduling a wax appointment during your period or 3 days before or after your period as your skin is extra sensitive during these times.
Let your hair grow out: Brazilian waxes aren’t an everyday hair removal kind of procedure. You will need about 2 weeks or a quarter inch in length of hair in your bikini area for the wax to be able to catch it. You can use this info to time your wax sessions appropriately even when you’re not on your way to a vacay.
Exfoliate before waxing: Exfoliation removes any build-up of dead skin cells around and in the follicle to aid easier and more thorough hair removal and give you the smoothest results. Gently exfoliate your bikini area in the shower the night before your appointment.
During Your Brazilian Wax Appointment
Ditch tight clothing: Tight clothing will chafe your skin after you’ve gotten waxed, and trust us, you really don’t want that, babe. So wear flowy, breathable clothing to your appointment like a loose dress, shorts, or pants, and thank me later for this tip.
Final preparations: Take a nice, warm shower before heading for your appointment. You can also take along some wet wipes for a quick cleanse before the session begins. If your level of pain tolerance is low, taking some painkillers or applying a numbing cream 30-45 minutes prior can help you get through the procedure easier as well as reduce any inflammation that may occur.
A glass of wine may help to calm down any nerves but be careful not to overdo it. Alcohol thins your blood, making you more sensitive to pain which you certainly don’t want when getting waxed.
After Your Brazilian Wax Appointment
Avoid hot water: As the heat can aggravate the skin after waxing, when taking baths or showers, avoid hot water coming in contact with your bikini area for at least 48 hours after your appointment. For the same reasons, it’s also best to be gentle when washing the area.
Skip the gym: If you’re a gym nut, not to worry, this is only temporary. You only need to steer clear of the gym or any similar activities that can make you produce excess sweat for 48 hours following your appointment. This is because waxing opens up your pores, making them vulnerable to infection, so getting too sweaty in or around that area while your pores are so open can be risky.
Exfoliate after waxing: You should begin exfoliating the skin about 4-5 days after waxing. Doing this 2 or 3 times a week is a must because it will help to avoid the ingrown hairs and bumps that can come with hair regrowth.
Moisturize the skin: To keep your bikini feeling nice and smooth, nourish and hydrate the skin by using a gentle body oil or cream. Your skin will thank you. Also, avoid using products that are harsh or perfumed.
As you’re practically going to be living in swimsuits on your beach vacation, a Brazilian wax will make things super easy for you so you won’t need to waste time shaving.
Don’t let the idea of getting waxed intimidate you, babe. We’ve put together this mini-guide to let you know that it’s super easy and totally worth it for those smooth results. You're going to love having a smooth bikini line for your beach vacay!
